52 Weeks of Smoothies: Berries + Oatmeal

This week's smoothies was created as a meal replacement, perfect for a late brunch or lunch. I've really been enjoying drinking a smoothie in place of a meal. I wanted to make a smoothie that was filling enough to keep me full until dinner, and one that included oatmeal (in case you can't tell, I'm totally loving oatmeal lately). I love the sweet taste and creamy consistency of this drink. It's become a quick favorite.
Berry Oatmeal Smoothie, serves 1
1 cup freshly washed kale
1 medium banana, sliced and frozen
2 cups frozen mixed berries
3 Tbsp uncooked plain oatmeal
3 Tbsp raw slivered almonds
1 Tbsp flax seed (optional)
1 Tbsp chia seed (optional)
1 cup spring water
2-3 squirts liquid stevia (optional, to taste)

This past week, my mom and I have been watching food and health documentaries like crazy. It's startling all of the information we've been finding out, especially related to low-fat foods and diet drinks. One thing that I've been very happy to hear over and over again is how healthy it is to make fresh juice and smoothies every day. This motivates me even more, and I'm looking forward to experimenting with more and more fruits and veggies. I've got a list started, including things like pomelos, avocado, and starfruit (not all in the same drink, haha). Have you tried any new-to-you produce recently? What were your experiences? xo, Mandy

  1. Looks good! Mixing frozen (and then chopped up) banana and/or strawberries with cold soya milk makes a really healthy milkshake alternative! xoxo

  7. I've gotten turned on to persimmons in the last couple years... they're beautiful, subtly sweet, and easy. I usually use them for baking or salads, but I'm sure they'd make a good smoothie too!
