52 Weeks of Smoothies: Orange Sunrise

For this week's smoothie, I wanted to make something really refreshing and full of flavor. I also thought it would be fun and kind of a challenge to try to stick with one color. After jotting down a couple of different combinations, I came up with the perfect mix of ingredients. Here's how to make the Orange Sunrise Smoothie:
Orange Sunrise Smoothie, makes 1 serving
- 1 cup diced frozen mango + pineapple
- 1 Cutie orange
- 4-5 baby carrots
- 2 Tbsp. plain oatmeal
- 2 Tbsp. raw slivered almonds
- 1 Tbsp. flax seed (optional)
- 2 squirts liquid stevia
- 1 cup water
- handful of ice

After making smoothies almost every day for 2 weeks, I thought I would've been sick of them or out of ideas by now. That couldn't be further from the truth! I'm so inspired to keep creating delicious and healthy smoothies. I think my favorite thing about them (besides how easy it is to incorporate so many veggies into my diet now) is that I'm able to add in all kinds of additional nutrients, like seeds, nuts, and spices. I'm currently trying to come up with a smoothie that will help detox and cleanse the body. Definitely something with citrus and ginger....and pomegranate? What do you think? xo, Mandy

  1. I love my nutri-bullet! I also got one for Christmas. I like adding things for protein because I don't eat a lot of meat; things like avocado, cottage cheese, and greek yogurt. They also make the smoothie creamier :)

  5. This sounds AWESOME. Do you have issues with the baby carrots getting blended up smooth? Or is it easy? That was always my fear about tossing in carrots that I'd be left with chunks.

I love pineapple in my smoothies. I often do a banana, pineapple, OJ, yogurt one (and sometimes spinach). I love the strange looks I get at work when I walk in with a green drink ;)

SO ready for summer and fresh, available produce that's ripe!

  13. I just found your blog, and I LOVE this idea! I've been doing smoothies for awhile, now, for breakfast, but have a hard time finding combos I really enjoy. This one looks lovely! Will definitely have to try.

My favorite combo, especially if you're looking something detoxifying, is a handful of kale, one small green apple, one banana, a half cup of almond milk, and a cup of yogurt (I use CarbMaster yogurt, it's a Kroger brand, in vanilla), plus ice cubes. It's great and the banana really drowns out any grassy taste from the kale. Plus, you're getting lots of protein from the yogurt and kale.

Can't wait to see what else you come up with!
