When I was 10, I saw my very first Cirque du Soleil show,
Quidam. It was available on pay-per-view, and my dad thought it would be something cool to watch (I also suspect he was tired of watching Nickelodeon, haha). Even at a young age, I knew what I was watching was nothing short of unique, and extremely special. It was pure magic, and from that day on I was obsessed with everything the Cirque had to offer.
A few weeks ago, my father surprised us with front-row seats to see Quidam in Kansas City. We were all completely shocked and so giddy to finally go to a Cirque du Soleil show. It was like a dream come true for me, and for my first live show to be the first show of their's that I ever saw...well, it was perfect.
If you've watched the DVD or seen the show live, then you know how powerful the opening is. I was blown away by how intense it was live, and had tears in my eyes within the first few minutes. The whole experience was so magical, and I even got to interact with
John, one of the main characters, at the start of the show! After 13 years of dreaming about seeing the Cirque, I can now cross that off my bucket list. ♥
One of the most memorable things from that night was that I got to see my favorite act,
the Banquine. I love these acrobats because their whole act is like this tortured, poetic dance. It's very romantic and haunting. (

One of the souvenirs I bought was a mask of my favorite character,
Karl (also known as the Target). Clowns of any kind normally terrify me, but he's such a cool character that I don't really mind. It was a blast seeing him dance around the stage and catch balloons in a bird cage. :)

This was such a crazy awesome experience. Definitely the best way to end 2012. I'm forever thankful for moments like these, and hope to see more Cirque du Soleil shows in the future. xo, Mandy

I am so jealous! I love Cirque. I saw them once live in a smallish venue but they were still amazing.

ReplyDeleteI saw Cirque du Soleil about 5 years ago, I think, and it was magical. I still think about it sometimes and I would love to see another show! There's also that 3D movie that just came out, so maybe I'll be able to see that. :)

Cirque! As a Canadian, I have been ingrained with a love of Cirque... and yet I have never seen a show! It's just always way out of my price range whenever they come to town.
ReplyDeleteI did manage to cross off working for cirque off my bucket list a couple years ago though! I worked on building shoes for several of their water shows, as well as the Lady Madonna boots for Beatles: Love and some stuff for Le Reve, both permanent shows in Las Vegas. Of course, I was working on the shoes in a workshop in Toronto, so I STILL didn't manage to see any performances. Strange, that!
